Meeting for drinks
One of the best ways to learn any language is to enjoy some nice food and drinks with your friends.
That’s how I learned Spanish…
…and I wouldn’t speak Japanese without that same approach.
That’s why today’s post is so important.
Today we’re going to look at a simple conversation for:
1 – Inviting friends out for drinks
2 – Picking a place and location, and
3 – Inviting more friends along
First, some good invitations:
Question | Answer |
Do you want to (get together) this weekend? | Yeah sure. When? |
Are you up for (a few drinks) later? | Sorry. I’m kind of busy |
Now let’s look at a conversation between Mike and Sam, who both work at the same restaurant.
Mike: Hey Sam. Are you off tomorrow?
Sam: Yeah. Why? What’s up?
Mike: Just wondering if you want to get together this weekend for a few drinks… maybe watch the game?
Sam: Yeah, who’s playing?
Mike: The Sea Hawks vs. The Chargers
Sam: I’m down for that. When’s the game.
Mike: Starts at 3. I was thinking of going down to the Watering Hole to catch it. How’s that sound for you?
Sam: Yeah. I love that place. They have the best nachos.
Mike: Right on. See you there at kickoff. And bring some friends if you want.
Sam: Right on. See you there!
Note: I’m down for that = I’m up for that = I want to do that.
Now let’s look at step 2: Picking a good place and location.
Question | Answer |
How does (5:00) sound? | Can we make it a little (earlier)? |
How about (six)ish? | Great! Where do you want to meet up? |
Note: (six)ish = 5:50~ 6:15.
And step 3: Inviting friends to join you.
Question | Answer |
Hey, is it cool if I bring my buddies along? | Yeah, of course. The more the merrier. |
Do you mind if my friends tag along? | Great. I’ll make sure to get a booth. |
So you’ve got a role play partner by now, right???
If not, get someone to practice this conversation with, ASAP!
There’s just no better/faster way to improve your speaking skills then by having a good friend to practice with.
It helps you have more fun.
It makes it easier to memorize these key phrases.
And if you’ve got some good food, and a few cold brews, even better, right!
